You will recognize a trio arrangement of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, but we have more in store for you. Join us for two gorgeous new works by David Biedenbender and Cuban-American Ivette Herryman Rodríguez.

When we think Baroque, we think of J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel. We could just as easily think of Barbara Strozzi, Isabella Leonarda and Francesca Caccini to name just a few of the many prolific women composers of the era. Missoula Chamber Music Collective presents “Voci di donne”: a sampling of some of the finest music by women from the Baroque period. We hope it will pique your curiosity to seek out more delightful music from these lesser known composers.

Featuring Montana flutist Tiana Grisé, the Missoula Chamber Music Collective brings some of opera's most beloved and virtuosic music into the more intimate setting of the chamber concert. Soprano Caitlin Cisler, and pianist Jan Halmes will join Tiana, presenting selections from "Lucia di Lammermoor", "Carmen", "Norma" and more. This is your chance to see and hear the fireworks fly from a front row seat!

The Missoula Chamber Music Collective presents Dreams of Winterreise, a concert featuring works inspired by Schubert's beloved masterpiece. Conceived as a journey into the cold of winter, Franz Schubert's Winterreise sets to music a selection of poems by Wilhelm Müller: Seventy-Seven Poems from the Posthumous Papers of a Travelling Horn-Player. Fluidly drifting between the world of dreams and bitter reality, the wanderer is heard in conversation with their own heart, by turns reflective, questioning, ironic, and finally resigned. Schubert’s achievement in setting these poems is to give musical life to the wanderer's symbolic companions - the sun, wind, trees and leaves, flowers, rivers and snow, crows and ravens - not only in the contours of the singer’s melody, but especially in the pictorial vividness of the piano score.

This is a very special event, featuring 8 of the finest cellists in Missoula. Do not miss this riveting event, programmed around Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for cello octet. This program will make you want to dance, sing, and lose yourself amid the wash of the luscious cello timbre.

Welcome the New Year in style with the enchanting melodies of the Baroque Era. Prepare to be captivated by Alessandro Scarlatti's 7 Arie con tromba, an extraordinary display of the baroque trumpet artistry of Brendan McGlynn, Principal Trumpet for the Missoula Symphony. This intimate concert offers a rare opportunity to witness Brendan's virtuosity up close. The program also includes the ethereal Troisième leçon de ténèbres by François Couperin, performed by two sopranos and continuo, creating a truly transcendent experience, featuring Natalie Breshears and Caitlin Cisler as sopranos, accompanied by Adam Collins on cello and Aneta Panusz on the harpsichord. Baroque in the New Year will transport you back in time, allowing you to start your year with the beauty and elegance of the Baroque period.

The Missoula Chamber Music Collective strives to feature musicians from our community. There is no better way to kick off the season than with the feature of Songbook, by David Maslanka. Maslanka lived in Missoula for the last 27 years of his life and became a well known member of our community. His works for winds and band are especially well known. A more intimate duo setting, Songbook uses only alto saxophone and marimba. To continue in the theme of songs, Andrew Beall's Song of 'Almah sets the text of the Song of Solomon to music for soprano and marimba. Brad Mehldau is known for his Grammy-winning piano trio, but he also collaborates with the best singers, writing original songs for Renee Fleming, Anne Sophie von Otter and Ian Bostridge. We will share one selection from his setting of Rainier Maria Rilke's Book of Hours. Finally, in Come Down Heavy, Evan Chambers transforms well-known American folksongs into a thrilling piece for violin, saxophone and piano.
